July 2007 Newsletter
Dear Students,

In the first few pages of the memoir-bestseller Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth consults a guru about how she might possibly live in this world, enjoying all of its delights and also maintain a strong sense of devotion to God, a strong sense of meaning. The guru says something like, If you want to find the balance you want, you must keep your feet so firmly grounded on the earth that it's like you have four legs (downward-facing dog?). He says, You also must stop looking at the world through your head. You must look through your heart instead. Although we might sometimes feel like mere cogs in the huge machine of a strange world, the truth is that we are all fully eligible for a meaningful life, one of the greatest fulfillment and service.

Come together for a monthly extended practice to deepen your experience and move your practice to unforeseen levels. Each Sunday class will include vinyasa warm-up, headstand, shoulder stand and an extended Savasana, or Yoga Nidra meditation. Using an approach that focuses on Essential Actions, or indispensable qualities, uncover the Essence of Practice in a way that will change your approach to all poses and sequences for years to come.

Stepping Through the Layers of Yoga, from the Gross to the Subtle: How Asana and Pranayama are linked in Practice with John Leebold
Saturday, July 7, 2-5pm ($65)

John Leebold is a senior Iyengar yoga teacher, an osteopath and one of the founding Iyengar teachers in Australia. He will be in the U.S. to teach at the widely promoted Yogacharya yoga festival in Santa Clara, and so we are very lucky to have him for an afternoon at The Yoga Loft—this will be an outstanding class! The afternoon of practice will consist of two hours of asana and one hour of pranayama. After a well-balanced asana practice, reclining and sitting pranyamas will be the modus and foundation for the practice.

The Anatomy of Asana Series: Feet, Feet, Feet... with Sabine Kuehner
Sunday, July 8th, 2-5pm ($60)

The feet form the foundation of posture and are the natural starting point for the asana practice. Issues with the feet can radiate up the skeleton and cause problems or restrictions in the joints of the legs or upper body. In this afternoon with Sabine, you can gain an understanding about the multiple arches in the foot and how the proper and balanced lift in the feet supports lightness in all the joints. Additionally, learn how the arches of the feet support and maintain the curves in the spine as well as the elongation of the spine. Sabine will illustrate how to maintain and restore the arches of the feet through both the articulation of the tiny bones and muscles of the feet as well as through the long tendons and ligaments of the lower leg. This class includes both discussion and practice. Pre-registration Required!

Group Detoxification Program with Jessica Ingersoll-Cope, NC
Sundays, July 8th , 15th and 29th ($165 by July 1st $180 after July 1st)

Call Jessica @ (415) 305-8349 for more information.
