Dear Students,
As San Francisco finally settles into a more winter-like rhythm and the light changes from the bright sunny blues to the many shades of gray, there is natural inclination to slow down. Like the many animals that begin a migration or hibernation as the season approaches, winter invites us humans to come inside as well. Yet, for most of us, the reality is that within the least active of ours seasons, lie the BIG, super-charged holidays. Suddenly, we have all sorts of obligations and social events, and many of us travel or have visitors to entertain. So how does one maintain balance between the inward and outward pulls? Could we possibly use our yoga practice as a kind sanctuary to not only heed the call to quiet ourselves but to maybe even support us when we are out there in the midst of the holiday activities? The coming weeks at The Yoga Loft feature some very specific stress antidotes as well as a variety of other workshops and classes that we hope will help you regroup and find center during this season.

Monthly Extended Practice with Karl Erb Sunday, Dec 2, 2-5pm ($45) Come together for a monthly extended practice to deepen your experience and move your practice to unforeseen levels. Each class will include vinyasa warm-up, headstand, shoulder stand and an extended Savasana, or Yoga Nidra meditation.

Sequencing a Flow-Based Class with Geoffrey Roniger
Saturday, Dec 8, 12:30-6pm
(12:30-2pm is led practice, $20 drop-in; 12:30-6pm is led practice plus lecture $125)
The flow style of yoga is considered a more vigorous form of Hatha yoga and yet a flow class can be done slowly, mindfully and safely to provide any level of student with the invigorating and cleansing benefits to mind and body. In this module, Geoffrey will illustrate how any asana can be seamlessly sequenced into a flow class, and will introduce participants to the salient points of teaching flow: coordinating breath with movement and choreographing a string of poses. Geoffrey will also include contraindications to flow-based sequences in general and offer adaptations and movements that build up strength and endurance for flow.
Home Pratice for the Holidays with Athena Pappas
Sunday, Dec 9, 2:00-5:00pm ($60)
What does having a "home practice" mean? Why should I practice at home? How do I begin? Yoga students will find the answers to these questions and more in this afternoon workshop. Sequencing will be address as well as appropriate postures for specific issues, such as back or neck pain. Participants will gain knowledge that will enable them to create different practices to suit their individual needs. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of students who have been attending yoga classes for least 6 months.
Sanity Sequences with Geoffrey Roniger
Saturday, Dec 15, 2pm-5pm ($40 pre-registered/$50 drop-in)
To stay sane during turbulent times, it is essential to ground and connect to one's center. But the consistent everyday challenges of life inevitably cause us to loose our sense of orientation from time to time. In this workshop, students will learn a practical sequence of yoga poses that work to balance the nervous system and cultivate a strong sense of centeredness. A handout of the sequence will be provided so that students may implement it in their home practice as needed.
Yoga for Back & Neck Care with Anne Saliou
8-Week Series begins week of Jan 8, 2008. Returning students may still call to register.

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long
run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward
change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable." -Hellen Keller |
