December 2006 Newsletter
Greetings Students,

We are putting the final touches on the 2007 January schedule and are really excited by the way it is taking shape and growing. As facilitators of The Yoga Loft, we have been trying to listen to what you, our students, want; what you are ready and willing to approach in your practice. We are constantly adjusting the daily schedule to suit your needs and at the same time attempting to add on workshops, intensives and other programs that hopefully round out your regular practice. With each year our offerings seem to broaden and this year, we look forward to offering a schedule with greater span—from in-depth Beginner's Series to Advancing Pranayama & Asana to prime-time Pre-natal. Stay tuned for January's new schedule after the Holiday Break (December 21-28).

Sanity Sequences with Geoffrey Roniger
Saturday, Dec 2, 1:30-4:30pm ($35)
Rather than abandoning your yoga practice when it is most needed, come learn 3 mini sequences of poses that can restore your overall sense of equilibrium. Handouts of each sequence will be provided to assist students in their home practice.

Home Practice for the Holidays with Athena Pappas
Sunday, Dec 10, 2:00-5:00pm ($45)
Everybody gets busy during the holidays — rushing around, caught up in the frenzy, travel, family, etc. But what about yoga during this hectic time when you need it the most? Join Athena for a fun afternoon of yoga focusing on postures and sequences to do at home when the season gets the best of you and your yoga practice.

Yoga Meditation for the Holidays with Chase Bossart: (How to stay Calm and Clear during the frenzy)
Sunday Dec 10, 7pm-9pm ($16 Drop-In or Class Card)
Join Chase Bossart, a long-time private student of Mr. T.K.V. Desikachar, for a two hour workshop which will explore breathing and mediation techniques for supporting a calm and relaxed state of mind during the holidays. Chase will discuss some of the principles that form Yoga's holistic view of our human system and see how those principles are the active foundation for the practice of Yoga. Students will get to experience these principles in a series of short, easy to remember practices that they can do over the holidays when there is little time or space for a full Yoga practice.

Extended Practice with Tony Briggs
Saturday, Dec 16, 1:30-4:00pm ($35/ pre-registration required!)
Tony's extended practice will leave you feeling fully adjusted, worked through to core, and surprisingly upright and balanced. Please join us for this thorough 3-hour class in Tony's signature Naga Yoga style—a practice that promises to include standing poses, hip openers, backbends, inversions, and twists.

A Weekend of Yoga with Angela Farmer & Victor Van Kooten
Dec 16 & 17, 11am-5pm each day at the beautiful San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo
To Register & for more information: Visit www.smcmarin.com or call Robin with a credit card 415-461-2288 (See www.sfts.edu - choose the San Anselmo location for a map).

Relax and Renew: Learning to Teach Restorative Yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater
Sunday, Jan 7, 2007, 12:30-6pm ($95)
This class will be devoted to studying the theory, practice and teaching of Restorative yoga. Part of this teacher training will be personal experience of the poses, part will be learning to set others up in the most advantageous way, and part will be the discussion of the theory of Restorative yoga. Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D, and Physical Therapist and internationally-known yoga teacher, has taught yoga since 1971.

ADVANCED STUDIES COURSES

Each module offered in our 200-hour certified teaching program is designed as a stand-alone course and is appropriate for advancing students or existing teachers to add to or enhance their current training. Hours accrued in these courses can be applied toward an existing Yoga Alliance certification. Students wishing to drop in to one or more of these modules may register online or give us a call call to reserve a space.

December Courses:

Using Observation and Reading Bodies for the Subtle Adjustment with Patricia Sullivan
Saturday, Dec 2, 2006: 1pm-6pm ($150)

In adjusting students, teachers first perceive by seeing and reading the body through the visual field, a skill which Patricia will help student-teachers understand and refine. Touch is a vehicle for perception, a means of receiving information, as well as for giving information, guidance, and support.

Pranayama and Meditation with Patricia Sullivan
Saturday, Dec 9, 2006: 1pm-6pm ($150)

Meditation seems effortless when the body-mind feels relaxed and steady. Patricia will illustrate specific restorative sequencing that is useful before and after a pranayama practice to make the elusive transformational benefits of meditation much more accessible. After experiencing the restorative poses, student-teachers will look at others in the class and learn how to help them find the most appropriate set up for various types of bodies. This will be followed by specific pranayama and meditation techniques.

The Art of Verbal Instruction in Teaching Standing Poses, Seated Poses & Twists with Jason Crandell
Saturday, Dec 16, 2006: 1pm-6pm ($125)

This module will address the importance of clear and concise verbal instruction. Jason will break down the instructions used in teaching the basic standing poses, forward bends ad twists. He will provide teacher trainees with a basic understanding of what information is necessary to convey to beginning students to lead them into these foundation poses.
