Why pre-natal yoga? Bonding, bonding, and more bonding.
During pregnancy the female body undergoes a natural, yet extensive
transformation. Each trimester is marked by developmental changes of the
fetus, fluctuations in hormone levels, and structural alterations happening
in the spine and pelvis which specifically effect the lower joints. That is
just a quick overview of the physical side of pregnancy. The mental and
emotion realms are far more complex, but just as important to the health of
the mother and the child she is nurturing. The nervous system is directly
connected to and is the transmitter of impulses between the mother and
child. Also, the respiratory and circulatory systems are taxed and, yet, key
in supplying the important nutrients through the umbilical cord from the
mother to her baby. So, however the mother is feeling, the baby inside is
sensing. It is this intimate relationship between mother and child, this
bond, that is the focus of pre-natal yoga.
The class itself is designed to support mothers during this special
time by addressing the physical and emotional issues that become her world.
The asanas are modified to maintain flexibility and gain strength in areas
most needed during labor and delivery. The breathing techniques, chanting
and meditative elements are provided as with any yoga class to bring a
deeper awareness and focus toward the mind and body connection...toward the
center. It is most important for the mother at this time to feel empowered
and calm, balanced and focused.
Pre-natal yoga is a wonderful way to meet other pregnant women while
actively enhancing your own sense of well-being. So, join a class and take a
break to nurture both yourself and your baby.
